Hiya Jake, Lovely to hear from you. The answer to your question is both - I reiterate my reply to a previous question that we all ( well I do) live with this low grade awareness of the probability of a terrorist attack coming close in our lifetime. KIDS extrapolate on that - I've heard my own doing it. They act as if they are completely blase on a plane and then make some kind of remark that betrays a degree of anxiety, usually disguised as a sick joke. That is life now. That is reality and I probably just tap into that subconsciously.
Re the breakdown in communication it's equally important. I have heard/read enough from people who have been separated from loved ones to know how reunion becomes all consuming. This sounds really schmaltzy, but I think ToW is about family love - blood ties.
