I'm going back to Leila's point about "crossover" fiction. I am never quite sure what people mean by this term - not always the same thing, it seems to me. I would mean a children's book which appeals to adults, e.g. NORTHERN LIGHTS, or ALICE IN WONDERLAND. But the term is also used for books like ACROSS THE NIGHTINGALE FLOOR or A GATHERING LIGHT.
As for SET IN STONE, I'm not quite sure where it fits. With my older novels, I don't consciously "aim" them at any particular age-group, or kind of reader - I write them mainly for myself. This feels very different from writing the younger books, like ANDIE'S MOON, or CATCALL.
In spite of the current vogue for "crossover", I think there still is a gap between teenage and adult fiction, and it can be hard for books to reach readers. So I'm pleased that SET IN STONE has come out in the Black Swan imprint, which should help to broaden its readership.
