I had a spelling challenge for Y3s that ran over half a term, where I created a 3-fold Publisher leaflet with lists of key words that the children often mis-spelled. They were arranged into groups of ten with, as far as possible, common patterns, so there were 'ould' words for instance, 'wh' words and those with apostrophes. I shared various ways to help the chldren learn and remember the words , had a lesson a week to go over them, and had a final test at the end of the half-term. I made an extra challenge for those who were good spellers already, so that all could see some progress. It worked really well.
