Are you working on the sequel now? Or something different entirely? Or is it a secret.....
The sequel was written last year. It was going to be called A Song for Jennah but my editor wants the title changed to something much darker to reflect the tone of the book! I LOVED writing the sequel, I think it's my favourite. It's written in the first person, in alternating chapters from Flynn and Jennah's points of view. It goes into the subject of bipolar disorder on a much deeper level.

I've written a fourth too, about a family on a run: WITHOUT LOOKING BACK (May '09) I'm now branching out into adult fiction and have written a book about an atypical custody battle called MAYA. I'm currently finishing a psychological thriller for adults.

EXCELLENT! There's plenty for us to look forward to.
My last question... as time is whizzing by...
Have you been aware of any changes and developments in your writing now that you are five books in...?

Re:Live Forum: Tabitha Suzuma - 2007/05/31 21:00 All this sounds really exciting, Tabitha! I'm sure we will all be waiting with eager anticipation for their publication.

Well, I can't believe it, but an hour has flown by! Thank you so much Tabitha for the open and honest way that you have answered the questions. We certainly have much to think on.

Last question before I go to watch 'House'!

How have your siblings reacted to your book? Have they been supportive or did they worry that you might be basing your characters on them?

One of my sisters had just been diagnosed with BP when I wrote the book. Initially she was very flattered about my choice of subject matter. Then the press got the wrong end of the stick and thought the whole book was based around HER. She was at uni and was terrified of people finding out. It was a difficult time. She's fine with it now though.

My 18 y/o brother however was delighted. He does not suffer from a mental illness but he is a fantastic pianist, about to start competing for BBC Young Musician and starting at the Royal College in Sept. He was extremely flattered that it was his music that inspired me to write the book.

Re:Live Forum: Tabitha Suzuma - 2007/05/31 21:03 Yes, thanks Tabitha... and to Dani for hosting tonight's session. Many thanks to everyone for participating.

I'll leave this strand up for a few days in case anyone wants to come back and add further comments and reflections. Then I'll put together a structured discussion so others can read it in a logical order, if they want to. Personally I like reading it in this format as the discussion unfolds.

No doubt 'see' you all online soon.

Re:Live Forum: Tabitha Suzuma - 2007/05/31 21:06 I think (hope) my writing has improved. Writing is like anything, you have to practise. I am aware that my style has matured somewhat when I go back at glance at my first books. I'm now trying to find a voice for my adult books which is proving a whole new struggle.

It's been a real pleasure answering your questions. If there are any others, I'd be more than happy to pop back onto the forum to answer them. And if anyone would like to contact me direct, I am always delighted to receive email via my website: www.tabithasuzuma.com

Thanks so much and have a good evening!

All the best,

Tabitha xx
