The Carpet People

Synopsis: In the beginning there was nothing but endless flatness. Then came the Carpet ... Now the Carpet is home to many different tribes and peoples and there's a new story in the making. The story of the Fray, sweeping a trail of destruction across the Carpet. A story that will come to a terrible end if someone or everyone doesn't do something about it...

Review: This is an abridged version of Terry Pratchett's book read by Tony Robinson that lasts aprroximately 3 hours.

A fantasy story set in the world of The Carpet, Terry Pratchett creates a band of unlikely characters who are at times very funny as they travel in their quest to stop the Fray. Not being a fan of the fantasy genre I did find this story at times very difficult to follow as you have to have grasped the features and history of the fantasy characters and unusual settings well from the beginning. As it is an audiobook there is not the luxury of quickly flicking the pages back to check or consolidate something. However, the story is extremely well read by Tony Robinson. He provides excellent character voices which really adds to the story and on occasion even sound effects. He really does carry off the characters funnier lines well too making the story enjoyable to listen to.
