Read and Respond: Charlotte's Web

Synopsis: The Read and Respond series provides teachers and support assistants everything needed to share best-loved children’s books. They can be used with the class or in small groups. Each book contains speaking and listening activities, photocopiable texts for shared reading, guided reading notes, extended writing projects, photocopiable plot, character and setting activities, differentiation advice and assessment guidance.

Review: I liked this resource. The ideas suggested in the Charlotte’s Web book I was sent to review, could easily be used in the classroom with very little pre-preparation. There were step-by-step instructions on how to use the activities and some excellent practical ideas for differentiation. Examples of other classic books in the series include: Kensuke’s Kingdom, The Twits, Holes, The BFG, Carrie’s War. And for KS1, Owl Babies, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Farmer Duck and Elmer. All of these books could be used to support the Renewed Literacy Framework not only for guided reading and writing, but also studying a story by a significant children's writer and looking at stories that raise issues. This series really does contain everything a teacher needs to teach a classic book. I was impressed.
