Dangerously Close

It is traumatic enough to deal with the death of your mum without having to cope with a new stepmother who, on first appearances, is charming but who is very quick to remove all traces of Dee’s real mum. Sixth-former Dee has moved with her two younger brothers to a different school. This is supposed to be a new start for all of them. Dee is overly protective toward her siblings, particularly the 12-year old Scott. Dee is friendly with her peers but rarely talks about herself. However, as she makes friends Dee realises that all families have problems and worries. but, by not speaking about her own past, Dee finds herself becoming distressed and confused.

An uncomfortable story which entices you to read on by gradually revealing the trauma of Dee’s family’s past. Themes include bereavement, abuse, step-families, trust and drugs.
