Touch and Feel Tractor

Are tractor tyres chunky? Is a ploughed field bumpy? And what does a straw bale feel like? Find out in this textured tractor book. Did a book ever live up to its name? Well this one does, as this book encourages the reader to touch and feel different parts of a tractor.

Each double-spread contains a photograph of a real tractor, complete with cardboard textures. My favourite is the straw bale – it dominates the whole page. The accompanying text relates to the textured section but there are also a number of questions asked, presumably with the aim of stimulating discussion and developing vocabulary. My three-year old son is quite frankly obsessed with tractors and it is great to have a book which is at his level but includes real photographs, as he rarely gets to see one close up. The photographic detail, which Dorling Kindersley is well-known for, means we can discuss the different parts of the tractor in some detail, as well as the job that each tractor is doing. Not a ground-breaking book but stimulating enough for a young child who is already interested in the subject matter.
