Pirateology

Synopsis: Join Captain William Lubber as he voyages around the world in pursuit of the pirate Arabella Drummond (the terror of the seas), her crew of desperate seamen and her dog, Mr Teach. On the way you will meet a range of lawless characters, learn more about pirates than you thought possible and become part of a tremendous adventure.

Review: Pirateology is following in the footsteps of the tremendously successful ‘ology’ series. Once again it is a truly sumptuous production including a compass embedded in the front cover and a ‘ruby’ inserted on the inside of the back page. The book is full of information about pirates and will be thoroughly enjoyed by fans of Pirates of the Caribbean and Vampirates’alike. Once again there are packages and flaps full of information and samples, including some gold dust. You can learn about the skills necessary to become a seaman, from navigation to tying knots.

This series has been a huge seller and this book maintains the high standard achieved by the others about Egypt, Wizards and Dragons. However, given the cost of the book and the sheer number of inserts etc it is more suitable for reading in the home than for purchase in any numbers by school or public libraries. This is a book which will enthuse its readers and could be helpful in inspiring boys in their reading. Definitely a book to treasure over the coming years.
