Midnight over Sanctaphrax

Synopsis: Far out in the open sky there is a ferocious storm brewing. But there is a city in its path - the fabulous sky city of Sanctaphrax. This is a city built on a floating rock and tethered to the land by a great chain. No-one knows of the impending danger the city is facing, no-one that is except the brave young sky pirate Twig. Twig has sailed over the Edge and he has learned about the threat to the city. But his voyage cost him greatly, not only was his sky ship destroyed he has been robbed of all memory ... now who will warn Sanctaphrax of the approaching danger before it is too late?

Review: Brilliantly read by Alex Jennings the captivating, amusing and gripping high fantasy adventure is bought to life for all fans of the Edge Chronicles series. For those unfamiliar with the stories there is a succinct introduction before the story begins. Jennings provides a variety of voices for the various characters invented by Paul Stewart and it is almost possible to see in one’s mind the fabulous illustration provided in the books by Chris Riddell. It would be very easy to read the book along with the CD as it is completely unabridged and this may appeal to struggling readers who are nonetheless interested in these stories. With lots of references to ship terminology scattered throughout the story, as well as some interesting insights into the way in which the weather works, along with a gripping adventure there should be something here for everyone.

Listening to stories, and reading along with them if that is what you enjoy, is a wonderful way of letting the imagination run wild. It is hugely enjoyable and very exciting. Midnight over Sanctaphrax is no exception, it is a must listen to CD for all fans and newcomers to the stories and was very much enjoyed by this reviewer.
