Sir Gadabout

Synopsis: Meet Sir Gadabout - the Worst Knight in the World ... When the fair Guinevere goes missing, Sir Gadabout sets out on a quest to resue her - and gets into some catastrophic adventures!

Review: This is a book and CD of the story of Sir Gadabout who is the worst knight in the world. The story of his adventures in order to rescue the missing Queen are hilarious. He embarks on the mission accompained by a selection of companions including Herbert his squire, Sidney Smith- Merlin's disapproving cat and his own 90 year old horse. Can he rescue the Queen before the smug Sir Lancelot?

The story on the CD is well read by Clive Anderson and includes sound effects which would ensure that the reader following the story in the book would have a good amount of time to keep up with the narrative.

The book is funny and the story is quick moving with short chapters and excellent illustrations by Tony Ross. This would be a good book for readers of differing levels and a wide age range as it has some difficult vocabulary but this is supported by the process of following the text along with the CD. It is also not too long and has some humour which requires inference for older readers who may struggle with longer texts. I thought this was a delightful and amusing story. It would be very suitable for a class to listen to together.
