Synopsis: Happy things, sad things. They're all in a baby's day!
Review: This is a sturdy board book with very simple illustrations and few words. Throughout the book we see a happy baby on one side of the page and a sad baby on the other. I liked the way the first two pages show a baby with a huge smile on one page and a glum face with tears on the opposite one. This shows clearly what happy and sad faces look like.
Leslie Patricelli has chosen some good scenarios for illustrating when we feel happy and when we might feel sad. These include a smiling baby with a large ice cream, who becomes glum when he drops it and happy baby running until he falls and becomes sad. A lovely concept, this is a book which offers a lot to talk about with toddlers, while the uncomplicated illustrations will appeal to babies.
