Synopsis: This is a large paperback translated from French, that is a cross between a colouring book and a picture book for young children. All it asks is for you to scribble in it…
Review I will confess that this book produced a certain amount of unease in me! I was always taught to never scribble in a book. But this book is entirely about scribbling. It seems to be aimed at very young children who are still at the scribbling stage. There are short sentences on each page, suggesting what you might scribble but it’s not necessary to read them to understand what is needed – colourful scribbles coming out of pens, scribbled leaves on trees, and so on. The illustrations are simple and bold, and very lively. I would suggest that it would be a fun book to use in SEN settings, particularly for children who need to practise dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination in an unthreatening way.
Most of the pictures are full-colour, and the book can only be scribbled in once. This is not really a practical book for the classroom, and its use is too limited to be a viable bulk purchase. There are other scribble and doodle books available, some of which are photocopiable, and these are invaluable especially for the reluctant artist who needs to loosen their style.
