Katie is a quite an ordinary girl. Well okay perhaps she is a little bit of a tomboy but she’s normal. On the other hand her family are totally embarrassing and are always forcing her into the most awful situations...
Katie is absolutely desperate to go on holiday to Disneyland, and after all it was due to her that the family have the money to go on a special holiday. However none of the grow-ups will listen to her, they all have their own ideas of the perfect holiday, the problem is will they ever agree on one? Eventually they decide to have one for the girls and one for the boys so Katie is stuck in a holiday camp with baby Emily, sister Helen, Mum and the dreadful Mrs Bayleaf! Deciding that she had better make the most of it Katie wanders over to the Kids Klub, finds herself drawn into a series of competitions and battling against the stuck-up Antonia in order to win the big prize!
The tricks that Katie gets up to and the lengths to which she will go to encourage her family to take part are hilarious. Mishaps and mayhem seem to follow Katie wherever she goes, she gets away with most of it, but will she escape the dreadful Mrs Bayleaf who is determined to catch her out?
Mary Hooper is probably best known for her novels for older readers but she has turned her talent, successfully, to this new series of titles for younger, early readers. These stories are highly accessible, the language is simple and straightforward and there are some great illustrations accompanying the text making it easier for readers to settle into the story and helping them to visualise what could possibly be happening. They will find themselves laughing out loud at Katie's antics; on the edge of their seat as they hope that she can get herself out of the mess she creates and swept along with the story as a result of Mary Hooper’s accessible. light-hearted and fun stories.
A highly recommended new series from a highly acclaimed author.
