Sugarcoated

How do you know who you can trust? Excuse me, most gorgeous guy I've ever met. See, before you go down in history as my first and ONLY date, d'you mind ticking the following boxes to disclose whether or not you are: a)A psycho axe-murderer b)The Devil in a suede jacket c)Just after me for my body. (Ooooh yes please!) Be prepared to be suspicious.

Sugarcoated is not as sweet as you'd think. Seventeen year old Cloddy (Claudia) is working in her father's optician when she witnesses a horrifying hammer attack through the window. Cowering under the desk, she hopes that no-one could see her and believes she is doing the sensible thing by telling the police she saw nothing. Preferring chocolate and surfing the net to dating, Cloddy can't believe her luck when she's chatted up by Stefan, a deliciously handsome young man with a thrilling air of mystery about him. Naively hanging off Stefan's every word, Cloddy is drawn further and further into a dark, terrifying web of threats, lies and murder, culminating in the worse situation imaginable.

A lively narrative with graphic description and realistic detail. Delighted by her luck in meeting blonde, blue-eyed Stefan, Cloddy is hopelessly blinded by the obvious and is obliviously optimistic until quite literally the bitter end. Personally, I found her as a character to be highly irritating, however, for those who enjoy a good, bloody thriller, or Catherine Forde's other books, this would be a must-read.
