In Marvin Gets Mad Marvin is once again an unhappy sheep but this time it is because his friend Molly has unwittingly eaten the apple that he wanted. Marvin gets cross, in fact he gets so cross that he goes on a rampage the result of which finds him lost and alone. Can anyone help Marvin out of the dark and gloom back to the sunny meadow?
Written and illustrated by Joseph Theobald this book has an instantly recognisable style. The colour palette that he uses is bright, bold and simple. The sheep stand out as balls of white fluff against the glorious green of the meadow and stunning blue of the sky. The detail in each picture is in the expressions of the sheep. The illustration is minimal but enticing, drawing the reader in and making them laugh.
One of the aims of the story is to help children see that all actions have a consequence which may not always be desirable. When Marvin looses his temper he soon realises that he has created a very lonely place for himself, all as a result of wanting an apple!
'Marvin gets Mad' is a bright and vivid story book.. The font grows where greater emphasis is required and there is a change between full-page pictures and smaller pictures in boxes providing a good variety for the reader.
A bright and fun-filled story for sharing and reading alone.
