A facinating guide to Ancient Egypt, told through the (fictional) journal of Emily Sands who, in 1926, led an expedition up the Nile to find the lost body of Osiris. On January 5th 1927, Emily Sands and her companions vanished without trace and were never seen again...
Another splendid entry into Templar's ology series. Following the huge success of Dragonology there have been many imitators of this style of publishing but Templar's books stand head and shoulders above the rest with unparalleled care lavished on illustration, text and production.
Egyptology takes the reader on a journey to the pyramids at Giza, Memphis,The Valley of the Kings and Karnak. With enticing novelties like a mummy case which opens up to reveal its layers, the plans of the pyramids, postcards, a working senet game, hieroglyphic codes and much more.
Some teachrs may worry that the novelties will not last long in the eager hands of the children who will most definitely want to handle this treasure but this need to be weighed against the pleasure and motivation to read that the book will generate. I would adivse including it in the 'teacher's special collection' reserved as a reward and a special treat. Also read and share it with your class. If you have a visualiser, pupils will be able to appreciate the novelties and the illustrations.
The book won the StoraEnso Design and Production Award at the 2005 Nibbies.
