The Tale of Jack Frost

Look out, look out, Jack Frost is about! Jack is snow white and always cold. Within a surreal setting and supported by weird woodland creatures, it is up to Jack to save the magic enchanted forest from the wicked goblins. Will he succeed and is so how will he do it?

Review: An intriguing, original tale of how this character from a well-known children's rhyme came into being. David Melling has created a beautifully told and humorous book that will be a favourite with all readers. The illustrations are atmospheric, with fantastic detail and will certainly need several readings to appreciate their complexity. Shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal, this is a perfect book to read aloud to children on a frosty winter morning. Links could be made to science and this creative tale would be a perfect vehicle to explore drama opportunities in terms of setting, character and plot.

An excellent addition to any child's or class library.
