Synopsis Mousebeard, yearns to be released from an ancient curse which dooms him to remain at sea. What’s more he seeks revenge on his mortal enemy Isiah Lovelock. In the meantime two young mousekeepers decide to help him leading to an exciting adventure which threatens their lives.
Review: The story finds the crew of the Silver Shark setting off on a quest to lift the terrible curse, which keeps Captain Mousebeard from stepping foot on land. The crew’s quest takes them far across the Southern Seas to finally arrive at an ancient kingdom, thought only to exist in ancient mouselore, thus setting the scene for another sequel.
Milway skilfully illustrates each chapter with a different mouse species with humorous mousekeeping tips, my favourite being the ‘floating puffer mouse’, with its inflatable belly! A colourful cast of characters are brought together in this sequel to The Mousehunter, beautifully packaged with a colourful cover, detailed maps and characters’ travelling observations.
The Curse of Mousebeard is a must for thrill-seeking readers who like a good yarn and a action-packed battle or two.
