Synopsis The witch’s children’s friend Gemma is scared about her first day at school, so they decide to help her by changing the school children and teachers into well known characters from traditional tales. This is a mistake, because although they can cast spells ... they cannot undo them.
Review As the school cat predicts, the witch’s children always mean trouble and that is what happens on Gemma's first day at school. The well meaning older witch’s child turnes her friend into an ogre to give her confidence. Unfortunately, this starts a chain of events that the children try to solve by casting more spells, changing the school children into different book characters. Great fun is being had by all until the school inspector arrives. Everything is returned to normal by Mum.
Well nearly everything.
The illustrations by Russell Ayto show the witch’s children as ordinary children and give a good pace to the story.
