Magic Poems

The DIY wizard, cavorting ghosts, the Genie of the magic lamp, the prancing unicorn. Here's a collection of poems about every kind of magic you can think of- just look inside...

Review: Jack Prelutsky's opening poem, "Where Goblins Dwell" clearly puts me at my ease by telling exactly where all the goblins, poltergeists, ogres and worse live.... "it's there to find within your mind, that place where goblins dwell." These poems are robust and rhyming with a good dollop of the disgusting - see "Dinner on Elm Street" for the ultimate school lunch. They are well chosen, sharp and slick with beguiling vocabulary and riotous illustrations.

These witty poems read aloud fabulously and beg to be read to partners or shared in groups. The final poem "The Lonely Enchanter" brings us back to earth with a bang. "Enchantments and magic have given him treasure and wealth without end. 'All this,' he says sadly, 'but never a friend.'" The enticing word play and detailed, rollicking pictures will ensure very popular appeal to girls and boys of varying abilities.
