Bee-Wigged

Jerry Bee loves people and wants to make lots of friends, but as the most enormous bee anyone has ever seen, this proves difficult. A sting from a bee Jerry's size would really hurt! A surpise find enables Jerry to disguise himeself and fit into school, where he becomes very popular. All goes well until his real identity is revealed. Can he be himself and still retain his friends?

Review: Cece Bell's drawing of Billy on the front cover is delightfully inviting and the bold use of colour would make this book stand out in any display. Jerry's chance find and transformation is imaginative and original. The unexpected final twist in the tale is the introduction of a hitherto unknown character who helps to resolve the dilemma successfully. A zany, humorous, but tender approach to the challenges of making friends and being accepted for what you are. This book would appeal to all young readers.
