The Time Travelling Cat and The Roman Eagle

This is a reprint of the book which was first published in 2001. The cover has ben updated to match the others in the series and is really striking. The series is written in short chapters and is based on a boy called Topher and his life in the modern world and his life in an ancient world when he accompanies his cat Ka on her adventures.

The story in the ancient world, in this case Rome, always mirrors the problems Topher is having in the modern world. The stories are clearly and interestingly written and the various aspects woven in seamlessly. Julia Jarmen manages to incorporate a lot of historical detail without the reader being aware that they are learning while reading the engaging and fast paced story. Her descriptions whether of places, people or events are flawless and she builds up the tension as the story unfolds. An excellent read and useful for topic work. This book would appeal to both boys and girls.
