Baby Touch and Feel: Animals

Synopsis: This chunky little board book features animals from different groups; the ones we are familiar with like kittens and puppies and the more exotic animals such as elephants. Each animal pictured has a tactile feature such as scales for the fish or hair for the chimpanzee, which can prompt children’s memories, when pointing and naming.

Review. Although this is a neat little book, with high quality illustrations, the tactile elements are disappointing. Too many of them are similar; for example the penguin ‘feathers’ feels just like the kitten’s ‘fur’. Some of the texturing relies upon card cutting and this is almost imperceptible to the touch.
