Astrosaurs Academy. Contest Carnage!

Astrosaurs Academy serialises the early adventures of the most famous Dinosaur in Space, ever: Captain Teggs Stegosaur. Young Teggs is a cadet at the Astrosaurs Academy where he must train hard before he can graduate to join the Dinosaur Space Service. The Megasaur Challenge has arrived on Astro Prime. It is the ultimate test of skill and strength. Dinosaurs from all over the Vegetarian sector will be watching whilst competitors battle for the sought-after title of Megasaur. Teggs and his fellow cadets are the first to test whether the equipment works and compete to be the first Megasaur. Unfortunately, as the events progress so do the injuries. Suspicious, Teggs investigates.

Contest Carnage is the second book in Steve Cole’s new series about Dinosaurs at school in space. The author brilliantly characterises the friendship of Teggs, Dutch and Blink and the friendly rivalry between their team, the Daring Dinos, and their rivals the Damona Darlings. Young readers will be able to relate their own school experiences to the story and characters. I am sure you will soon hear the Darling Dinos’ motto ‘WE DARE’ in many school playgrounds. Fans will also spot Arx in Contest Carnage. Arx is another favourite character from the Astrosaurs series. She and Teggs are not instantly friends. Readers have to wait to find out how the friendship develops.

Contest Carnage is both humorous and a fast-paced adventure full of unexpected danger and heroic action. Woody Fox’s fabulous monochrome illustrations capture the excitement and emotion of the story. I thoroughly recommend Contest Carnage for children aged 7-10.
