Dino Egg

When a seemingly innocent boiled egg starts to shake, clamour, say ‘cheep’ before hatching out a dinosaur Ned’s unstoppable run of bad luck means that his brother choose option ‘b’; hide it from your mum under a pile of socks and try to keep it as a pet!

Welcome to the hilarious Finn family household. Ned, Bill and Stacey are back in their second adventure. Their first, Fish, was a great adventure, Dino Egg is their second outing and this time they have to grapple with the dinosaur now living in their house. How do you hide a dinosaur from your parents, particularly one that likes to eat everything in sight, from mum’s spare knitting needles to dad’s precious notebook, cushions and even real food! At first it seems as if its going to be an easy job, after all how much trouble can a little spotty pink creature be?

Well it turns out to be quite a lot. The little dinosaur has been living in his egg for centuries and in the course of all that time has amassed a wealth of knowledge that he is very keen to share. To top it off the children are about to start a new term at school and Ned’s teacher has decided that he and is likely to have a good influence on the school bully Joe Blagg. As if sitting together wasn’t enough both boys are then chosen to take part in a swimming contest in Loch Ness!

Dinosaurs are a hugely popular theme that will create instant appeal among the young audience at whom this books is aimed. It is packed with fascinating facts about them, their size, how much they could eat, how to pronounce their names and more. Charlie James has teamed this with an insight into the normal behaviour of primary school children to deliver a book that will have its readers laughing out loud from page 1. And they won’t be laughing only at the text but also at the fabulous drawings that accompany it. using a variety of techniques to engage her readers such as differentiated fonts for the text, short chapters and lots of illustration this book is a brilliant introduction to longer books for younger children and is sure to amuse and fascinate at the same time.
