Kipper’s Beach Ball

Synopsis: One morning as Kipper pours his cornflakes a thing drops into his bowl. A colourful, wrinkly, shiny thing. But what is it?

Review: This is another lovely story by Mick Inkpen that will delight young children and make grown-ups chuckle too! Kipper is an endearing dog and  appeals to most young children. Kipper has touched a chord with children and parents alike.

Kipper opens his cornflakes and discovers treasure inside. When the `free gift' drops into his cereal bowl, Kipper takes it off to his friend Tiger's house and the pair ponder over the `colourful, wrinkly sort of thing'. The plastic wiggly thing, which turns out to be the biggest, most beautiful beach ball ever. He and Tiger have wonderful fun with their new toy, splashing by the sea in the sun, but how long will it last? Soon they hear a small pop! But there's always another box of cornflakes and more treasure to be found.

This is one of the longer Kipper stories, which makes it perfect for reading aloud to young children, especially as a bedtime story. There are many references to every day life. The book consists of 32 high quality shiny pages, packed full of exciting, descriptive text and endearing illustrations, in the popular 2-page spread format. The gentle text is matched by light, airy colours and as always with Mick Inkpen's books, the illustrations are a delight, appealing with a touch of fun and intricate detail.  There is minimal text.. The book reads very well aloud, as a  an excellent `read-to-me' story for the younger child, progressing to `read-with-me'.... and…. bound to be requested regularly!
