Rose By Any Other Name

Rose has packed the van with everything essential for an escape: full tank of petrol, msuic, surfboard, and a determination to forget the secret lurking in her past. Fantastic - until her decides to join her.

.. Although I am not keen on realist teenage fiction, I have to admit that the novel is both well-written and innovative. McCarthy is very good at getting inside her character's head, rather than simply regurgitating clicheed teenaged behaviour, and I found the unusual narrative style (namely the parallel structure and the street-press coloumn) refreshing. Not my type of book, but for teenagers who like the genre then it is worth a read.
