Torrent

Divided into six short chapters, Torrent! tells the story of Tom, who is in danger of being swept away because the Dam is broken. A girl rescues him on her motorbike and carries him away to safety. Only later, when he meets her father, is it revealed that she died five years earleir in the Blue Dam.

Aimed at 'reluctant' and struggling  readers, Torrent! is carefully organised. 3 - 4 sentences on a page, space between them and well-placed illustrations by Roy Petrie create visual impact and stimulation. Predominantly simple sentence construction and subtle repetition of information enables readers to access the story with relative ease.

Another great book from Barrington Stoke.
