Synopsis Another instalment in the life of Pigeon as he talks to the reader about his latest desire to have a puppy of his own! The front cover gives a flavour of Pigeon's character as he stands coyly, looking over his shoulder with his wings pressed together with an expression on his face that all parents will recognise, the build up to a long attrition for a longed for item.
Review The front end papers set the scene for this very enjoyable book which made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Here we have Pigeon with a long list of ‘Things I Want’ and number 30 on his list is A PUPPY. The author invites the reader in by having Pigeon saying ‘hello’ and ‘asking how you are’ in a very chatty way, getting you on side straight away. After which Pigeon proceeds to explain why he will make a good owner of a puppy, but his promises of how he will look after it alongside his reaction of when he receives a puppy suggests that this may not be the case. I’m sure that adults and children will recognise the reflection of the battle that can occur when a child is after an object of desire, before moving onto the next one. The delightfully expressive images created by the author, add additional meaning and emphasis to the text.
