The Demon Assassin

Every man eventually finds his way to the devil's door... From beneath London's streets, the city's founder King Lud summons the Rector men to do his evil bidding. But Paul is both demon and man. Will fate choose which side wins out? Or can Paul subvert his own nature to overcome the menace? His journey takes him back to the horror of the Blitz, amid a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Churchill - and change the course of history.

Leaving the present day, Paul travels back in time and is thrown almost immediately into a brutal battle with demonic forces. Severely burnt, Paul's memory temporarily leaves him and he can only recall his first name. When his wounds mysteriously heal, Paul is taken home by Detective Inspector George Temple, the man he came through time to save. Accompanied by Temple's niece, Evelyn, Paul seeks to recover his memory and his mission, with demonic forces ever prevalent to hinder his progress...

This is the second of Alan Gibbons' Hell's Underground series and begins, it appears, immediately where the prevoius novel leaves off. I have to say initially I found this very confusing and it took me some time to "get" the characters and plotline, however, iI imagine if you have read the first book, everything would be clear. This book contains a lot of very graphic horror imagery, which is not quite my cup of tea, but I'm sure would appeal to fans of Alan Gibbons!
