Review: This is a fast-paced, thrilling read, ideal for the teen market and is sure to be most popular amongst female readers. Kate Cann creates a strong and credible female protagonist and although the subject matter deals with the supernatural it is conveyed in a realistic manner, making the story genuinely gripping and engrossing. The setting is well-drawn and owes much to Kate Cann’s research into Hellens, a stately home in Much Marcle. Many of the rooms and elements used in the story undoubtedly take their origin from the architecture and appearance of the old house (see: http://www.hellensmanor.com ). This is a satisfying psychological and supernatural thriller and the sequel – ‘Fire and Rayne’ – is unlikely to disappoint. Highly recommended.
