Synopsis: Mouse is little and so is her house - but her apple is huge. She needs to find a home that is big enough for the both of them. But as she visits all sorts of other creatures to see if she can share their homes, her apple shrinks and shrinks - she's been nibbling it away! Peep through the holes and join Mouse in her search for a new home
Review: One day Mouse looks out of her tiny hole and spots a huge red apple. But Mouse’s home is too small for the huge apple. As Mouse travels round the country looking for a big enough home for herself and her new apple, she meets many friendly (and one quite scary!) animals along the way. House hunting makes Mouse quite peckish and she has a few nibbles of her apple on her journey until she finds a home big enough for the apple and herself. However, readers will notice that this new home looks remarkably similar to Mouse’s original one!
Petr Horácek has created a delightful book for young readers. The illustrations are bright and simple and extend the narrative, allowing children to become part of the story as the illustrations inform us of how Mouse nibbles away at her apple until it fits into her “new” home. On each page, as with the front page, there is a cut out which allows the reader to “look into” the next page which children will enjoy.
The delightful illustrations in A New House For Mouse could be used during Expressive Art sessions as they could be used as starting point for looking at collage and printing.
