Playing in Traffic

Synopsis: Skye Colby - she's the multi-pierced Goth girl hanging around the internet cafes; always out at odd hours in strange places. All the boys call her slut puppy; the girls wrinkle their snub noses in distaste. Some people think she's brilliant, others say she's unstable. Skye is all those things, and more...So why has she singled out Matt for special attention? Matt works hard at being invisible and can't understand why Skye is interested in him. Clearly, she has a dangerous agenda, but how can Matt resist the mystery and drama Skye trails in her wake? Despite warnings from people at school, Matt is totally mesmerised by Skye - she promises a way out of his dreary existence - but at what price?

Review: "I was the ghost of the school corridors.
Skye was the devil.
And I was doomed from the day she spoke to me."

This gripping psychological story kept me on the edge of my seat. It describes the torturous relationship between 17-year old Matt and multi-pierced Goth girl, Skye. Despite people's warnings Matt is totally mesmerised by Skye who promises him a way out of his dreary existence - but at what price?

The story is told in retrospect and can only have a desperate ending.

Themes include family relationships, first love, bullying, and issues of low self-esteem.

I would recommend this to readers of Year 9 and above.
