The Costa Award shortlists (formerly Whitbread) were formally announced on the 29th November. The four titles on the children's list are:
- The Diamond of Drury Lane by Julia Golding
- Clay by David Almond
- Just In Case by Meg Rosoff
- Set in Stone by Linda Newbery
Here's what the judges thought: "Clay is a powerful, moving and unusual story which works on every level. It is beautifully and plainly written, and comes straight from the heart." Diamond of Drury Lane "A rollicking eighteenth-century theatrical romp with a fantastically feisty heroine." Set in Stone "A novel of intrigue and deception. Newbery's landscape is a joy to walk into. "Just In Case "A razor-sharp portrait of a teenage boy and his relationship with his image, his inner life and fate itself." Now read them and tell us what you think
