John Boyne, author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas took part in BBC School Report Day on 22nd March.
John visited Loreto College, St. Albans as part of his tour to promote the paperback of the book which was published in February. Pupils interviewed John in the school library and he then gave a talk to Year 7 students, followed by a book signing. Loreto College’s librarian, Jan Lennon, chose The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas as a “School Read” and aims for the entire school to have read the book by the end of this academic year. So far over 400 people in the school (including students, teachers, parents and governors) have read it. She comments: “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas seemed like the perfect choice as it is one of the very rare books that can be read by different age groups and appreciated at different levels . . . The scheme has been more successful than I dared hope.” This interview can be viewed on the BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/school_report/default.stm
