The Honour List for School Librarian of the Year 2007 was announced at a ceremony at the Tower of London on Wednesday 2nd May. The five UK librarians are: Ingrid Hopson, George Abbott School, Guildford, Surrey; Fay Dowling, Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria; Barbara Hickford, Our Lady's Convent Senior School, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Helen Pallett, Djanogly City Academy, Nottingham and Helen Roberts, Lea Valley High School and Sports Academy, Enfield. Also, for the first time this year a school librarian from a primary school in Hong Kong has been honoured. Amanda Gough from Kellett School, Hong Kong, is the only primary school librarian on the list.
Speaking about the aim of the award, Eileen Armstrong, Chair of the School Library Association said, 'The award, created in 2004, aims to recognise th excellent work that is carried out in our school librariies every day; helping students learn how to learn, enthusing children and young people about books and reading, and raising achievement. It highlights and spreads best practice and innovation through celebrating those whose work is outstanding.' The School Librarian of the Year will be awarded on 16th May at a ceremony at Birmingham Botanic Gardens.
