They are: Siobhan Dowd, writer of teen/crossover fiction, whose A Swift Pure Cry was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award this week; Emily Gravett, illustrator and picturebook author, whose debut book Wolves won the Greenaway prize for illustratiion in 2005; Julia Golding who has had a prolific 24 months with 8 books published so far and a further two to be published later this year.The authors were nominated by publishers, editors and agents as part of Waterstone's silver jubilee celebrations. The final 25 were selected by a Waterstone's panel. Children's books also did well in the top 25 ratings. Philip Pullman's Northern Lights was voted the best book of the past 25 years by Waterstone's booksellers. While Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone topped the list of favourites voted by the public.
