Congratulations to Jacqueline Wilson who was made a Dame in the New Year 2008 Honours List. The popular children's author and former Children's Laureate is well respected for her tireless commitment to children's reading and the care and attention she shows to her readers. She is also a sponsor for the Branford Boase Award which is given for to a debut children's writer and their editor. Jacqueline was previously awarded an OBE in 2002.Speaking about the honour she said, "I think it's a great honour, not just for me, but for all the many children's writers who care passionately about their work and try hard to introduce children to the joys of reading."
Eric Hill, creator of the popular spot books and Kathy LeMaire of the School Libraries Association were awarded OBEs. Congratulations to all on the recognition of your services to children's books and reading. Guardian Report
