After 4 years at the top of the library lending leader board, Jacqueline Wilson has been nudged into second place by US thriller writer, James Patterson and she  is hotly pursued by Daisy Meadows (rising from number 26 to number 3)

Former advertising executive, Patterson is the author of almost 50 novels and with the help of co-writers produces 8 books a year. He is the creator of the teenage thriller series, Maximum Ride.

In fact 30% of all books borrowed nationally are children's or education titles and this is reflected in the list of  top 10 authors which also includes Mick Inkpen, Janet and Allan Ahlberg and Francesca Simon.
