Katie Price's Perfect Ponies has been shortlisted for the W H Smith Children's Book Award and what a furore it has caused.
Ben Hoyle in the Times reports on the fallout that Price's nomination has caused. Tracy Chevalier, Joanne Harris and Robert Harris all register their annoyance. They argue that the book is ghost written and therefore should not qualify for the award. Rising to Price's defence, Children's Laureate, Michael Rosen argues, “We get too hung up about authorship. None of us writes a book entirely on our own. We get help from editors, or ideas might come from conversations with our families, or children. The issue is whether the book’s good, not who has written it. If Jordan or any of her helpers have written a very good book then absolutely good luck to them.” So what do you think?
