On Thursday 8th May 2008, Lion Hudson launched ‘50 Favourite Bible Stories’ a book and three CD set narrated by Sir Cliff Richard, adapted by Brian Sibley and illustrated by Stephen Waterhouse.

In the grand setting of the Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, the event was a particular attraction for Christian booksellers and charities. Sir Cliff Richard entered the building to much applause.

Lion Hudson must be congratulated for creating a relaxed, formal atmosphere. Peter Clifford of Lion Hudson thanked those who had contributed to the project, initially suggested by Sir Cliff. It is a project that has taken two years to complete - to a strict deadline - to be released as part of Sir Cliff’s celebration of his 50 years in show business.

Sir Cliff explained that his faith is an important part of his life, which is why he approached Lion Hudson with this project. He hoped that the stories would be as meaningful to young people today as they were to him as a child. Sir Cliff read three stories from the collection: In the Beginning, Jesus the Teacher and Jesus and Zacchaeus. His reading - with a clear, enthusiastic and animated voice - held everyone’s attention.

Brian Sibley’s adaptation of the 50 stories should be ideal for young children. Stephen Waterhouse’s illustrations, which were displayed around the hall, are modern, vibrant and fun. There are 102 images in the book and they took nearly eight months to complete.

The evening finished with Sir Cliff signing copies. Judging by the length of the queue that quickly formed, the British Elvis wasn’t going to leave the building for some time!
